GFCA Breakfasts
Every month, the Gnoss Field Community Association has a breakfast with a guest speaker, who talks about a topic related to aviation. I go out to the airport early each time to help set up, cook/serve the food, and then clean up afterwards. It's really great to meet all the pilots at the airport and listen to the presentations regarding new and exciting things in the world of aviation. The breakfast is also inside of a hanger, with airplanes around all the tables! There have been talks about autonomous air taxis, underwater robots searching for sunken planes, learning how to fly, supporting general aviation, and much more!
I have been coming out to the airport to help with this breakfast every month for the past 3 years now, and I plan to continue until I go off to college next year. I was also introduced to the airport manager to propose my Eagle Scout Project idea to him, by the President of the Gnoss Field Community Association. They have all supported my Eagle Project and it's a great community out at the airport! I love hearing about flying and aviation, and some day I hope to have my private pilots license.
Young Eagles
Young Eagles is a program put on by the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA). The local chapter of the EAA puts on a Young Eagles event twice a year at Gnoss Field, and I go help out with this event as well. At the event, young kids come to the airport and are given the opportunity to fly in an airplane, an experience that for many of these kids is the first time they've ever been in a small, general aviation aircraft. It's really cool to see all the kids have this experience and I think we need to help spread the joy of general aviation (basically anything that isn't commercial or military).
